It’s getting harder to keep up to date with daily posting! We went to Amanohashidate on Friday 23rd May.
2 hours train ride from Kyoto is the pine-covered sandbar Amanohashidate, which is one of Japan’s top 3 scenic views.
We hired bikes and rode across the 4km sandbar. Very pretty with beaches and very old pine trees. On the other side we went up a chairlift to a viewing area. The traditional way to view the sandbar is upside down, between your legs! Beautiful view from the top, also out over to the sea on the other side.
We didn’t have much time with the bikes so we hooned back across the bar and then wandered round the waters edge before heading back to Kyoto. It was really nice to be out of the very touristy Kyoto for the day!
