Reading on the Seoul metro

I’m still undecided about e-books vs physical books, but as an avid reader of course I have an e-reader, and when I can’t get to a library I use that. But I’ve always thought “I would never read a book on my phone”. Until now that is. Being in Seoul without mobile data, we have to rely on free wifi where we can get it, and we can’t get it on the metro. The first few days here we would just sit and get used to the sounds and the little station jingles while on the train. But after a few days of this, and sometimes train rides of 30-40 minutes I decided to try an e-book on my phone. I got a sample of a few off Google Books and started with John Grisham’s “The Reckoning”. It hooked me in so I had to purchase it and I’m glad I did; it’s a good read so far (set in the late 40s, small town America, a dude kills the local priest for “good reasons” that I am yet to find out!) and it’s a great way to kill (lol) time on the train. The only thing is I don’t like to read off my phone before bed, so it’s my train-only book!

As a side note, this being my first John Grisham novel, I was surprised by his simple writing style. I guess with him being such a huge author I expected more, I don’t now what, just more; but then I just came across this quote by him “I can’t change overnight into a serious literary author. You can’t compare apples to oranges. William Faulkner was a great literary genius. I am not.”  Okay, I get it now. And I look forward to my next train ride read!
